FIFA World Cup 1978 Germany vs Austria: In der legendären Schmach von Cordoba setzte es im letzten WM-Spiel unter der Ägide von Bundestrainer Helmut Schön eine denkwürdige 2:3-Niederlage. Es war Österreichs erster Sieg über eine deutsche Mannschaft seit 47 Jahren. Zwei Tore, darunter das entscheidende 3:2, erzielte Hans Krankl, der daraufhin von seinen Landsleuten und insbesondere vom österreichischen Rundfunk-Reporter Edi Finger in einer ebenso legendären Berichterstattung gefeiert wurde. Aus sportlicher Sicht war dieses Ergebnis allerdings bedeutungslos für die Österreicher, da sie trotzdem als Gruppenletzter zusammen mit den drittplatzierten Deutschen nach Hause fahren mussten.
